about

Lukas Gloor is a digital artist with a long-standing background in communication and design. He has worked in various fields ranging from image editing, illustration and 3D modeling, and holds a BA in ArtScience with a focus on sound art. For several years, he has been deeply engaged with procedural and generative design processes. The emerging possibilities of AI-assisted image generation have led him to a photographic approach that reflects his interest in Earth's history and evolution. In contrast, he seeks to depict human actions in a fragmented and deconstructed manner. This results in disruptions that reveal the underlying generative process itself, creating a recombined perception of the world with a strong reference to collage.

Lukas lives and works in Basel and teaches at the Basel School of Design.

AI does not simply generate ‘random products’ but offers potential possibilities from which the artist selects, combines and purposefully develops further. This collaboration resembles a dialogue in which the machine is not merely a tool but a kind of co-creator that challenges and expands artistic imagination. Here, intention and emergence intertwine, leading to procedural imagining.

Where AI truly excels in synthetic photography is in portraying our infirmities and vulnerabilities as human beings. – Of course, this doesn’t apply to fields like fashion, concept art and illustration, where a narrow range of stereotypes is often desired and already masterfully employed by other artists.

Above all, it feels like daydreaming. Visual generative AI takes you on a journey — literally traveling with the mind.
